Is Masseria Groves legit?
On paper, Masseria Groves (masseriagroves.com) offers the best value in this series: $185 a season for four 500ml bottles of Sicilian extra virgin, about $92.50 per liter, with a certificate, a producer label, and photos of your tree in a member portal. The site tells a rich story: a partnership with the Susafa estate near Polizzi Generosa, 12,000 thriving trees, oil since 1897, fully organic since 2009, cold-pressed within 24 hours.
Here is what we found when we tried to stand any of it up. The domain was registered in September 2025; the site is one year old. No founder, owner, or employee is named anywhere, including on the Our Story and Founder’s Story pages. The refund policy names no legal entity, no address, and no jurisdiction; the only contact is a hello@ email. There are no reviews on Trustpilot, Google, Yelp, or anywhere else we searched, no press coverage, and no social media presence. The testimonials on the homepage ("Sarah M.", "Michael R.", "Jessica L.") are undated, unverifiable, and formatted exactly like placeholder copy.
The estate claim is the part we most wanted to confirm, because Susafa is real: a well-documented Sicilian farm and agriturismo run by the Saeli-Rizzuto family. But no Susafa-side source we could find mentions Masseria Groves at all. The partnership may exist. Nothing public says so. Meanwhile the site disagrees with itself, claiming 12,000 trees on the homepage and 7,500 on a product page, and "50 years of expertise" alongside "since 1897." The blog, called The Daily Press, contains a handful of generic posts with stock photography and no actual harvest updates. All sales are final. Shipping regions are not disclosed.
Our verdict: we cannot tell you Masseria Groves is fake, and we cannot tell you it is real, and that is precisely the problem with sending it $185 under an all-sales-final policy. The fix is entirely in the company’s hands: name a human, name a legal entity, have Susafa confirm the partnership publicly, and reconcile the numbers. Until then, buyers who want Sicilian oil have verifiable routes to it.
